Why Target Blue Catfish
Blue catfish are an invasive species that has spread across the Chesapeake Bay and its tidal rivers, and Maryland encourages anglers to catch and keep them. For charter groups that means one thing: dependable action. Blue cats feed year-round, grow far bigger than most anglers expect, and pull hard enough to keep even experienced fishermen honest.
The steady bite makes these trips a great fit for kids and first-time anglers - there is not much waiting around - while the size of the bigger fish keeps seasoned anglers coming back. The crew handles bait and tackle, and rods, reels, and Maryland fishing licenses are included like every trip we run.
Blue catfish are the natural pick every August, when Maryland pauses rockfish (striped bass) season from August 1 through August 31. Instead of skipping the trip, groups target blue cats and still head home with a cooler of fillets. Keeping blue catfish also helps the Bay: every one removed is a win for native species like rockfish and blue crabs.
They are excellent eating, too - mild, clean white fillets that hold up on the grill or in the fryer. If your group wants a meat trip, this is one of the most reliable ways on the Bay to fill the cooler.
Blue catfish trips book as private fishing charters: pick a date on the availability calendar and mention blue catfish in your booking notes, or call and the team will set the trip up for your group.
